How to Correctly Clean and Store Your Sex Toys ?

It’s a much simpler way than you thought

As an adult, perhaps we all know that sex toys can bring us unlimited joy and excitement. So cleaning sex toys seem to be the first and necessary step, whether before or after you use them. Proper cleaning of sex toys is essential to avoid bacterial or sexually transmitted infections. But before we do it, we’d better know what materials are they made of? How to clean them? And how do we better store them? There is no doubt that Lendgogo has prepared answers for all of you.

What materials are sex toys made of?

Silicone, Liquid silicone, ABS plastic, Rubber, Nylon, Leather, PVC, and vinyl, etc. Generally, we classify them into non-porous materials and porous materials, if the material is porous, it has tiny holes (like pores) that can harbor bacteria, fungi, and general gunk; but if your sex toy is made from nonporous materials, it doesn’t have those holes, so various microorganisms are less likely to stick around.

How to clean toys made of porous materials?

The porous material can be cleaned with soap and water or toy cleaner. For most toys, using mild liquid soap is a good choice. After washing the toy, let it dry before storing it.

  • For toys with porous materials, they have tiny holes or pores, bacteria may be hidden even after cleaning. It’s best to reserve any porous toys in your repertoire for solo play or enjoy shared use with a condom.
  • For other kinked gears, leather accessories such as dildo harnesses and BDSM equipment should be spot cleaned with gentle soap and water. Also, leather materials, please do not soak in water for too long before you cleaning.

“Note that leather is very porous, so be cautious of sharing these items with others if you aren’t fluid bonded.”

How to clean toys made of non-porous materials?

You can clean with antibacterial soap and warm water. The advantage of non-porous toys is that you can boil them in water or run them in a dishwasher as long as they don’t use power tools. For a manual non-porous silicone toy, you can consider disinfecting it with water not higher than 80 ℃, but 100 ℃ boiling is not recommended. As for motorized toys, remember to take the batteries out before giving them a good clean.

Because different materials require different care. So this handy little chart will show you how to take care of the toys according to how they are made. If your items are made of multiple materials, you should consider each material while cleaning.

How to store sex toys safely?

In many cases, people will put toys directly in the drawer of the bedside table for convenience. This is a very unrecommended storage method because there are invisible bacteria and dust in the drawer. We have some tips for storing sex toys;

1. Buy a disposable storage box and place the toys in it.

2. Put the toy in the original packaging.

3. Use lint-free cloth bags.

4. Use different non-plastic containers.

5. Some final recommendations for storing sex toys: For longevity, please store all battery-powered toys in batteries outside the toys. If left in the toy for too long, the battery may run out or corrode.
